Hubby Bear (eater): So, the premade BBQ sauce and spaghetti sauce that Bear Hands uses for this recipe aren’t anything special on their own, but when mixed together are DELICIOUS!

One doesn’t typically associate spaghetti with smokehouses and slow-cooked indulgence, and yet here we are—presented with a dish that marries the comforting familiarity of pasta with the bold, unapologetic personality of barbecue. BBQ spaghetti is a beloved staple of Tennessee barbecue tablescapes, and once you’ve had it, it’s easy to understand why. It’s comforting, a little unexpected, and endlessly satisfying—the sort of dish that invites second helpings without much persuasion. There’s many versions of this rare and charming spaghetti and this one is mine, I hope you try it with your family today!

Ingredients

• 6 cups marinara sauce (homemade or a trusted store-bought favorite)
• 3 cups passata (preferred for texture, though any tomato sauce will suffice)
• 2 cups Maui sweet or Vidalia onions, finely chopped
• 2 cups red bell peppers, finely chopped
• 1 teaspoon dried thyme
• 1 tablespoon onion powder
• 1 teaspoon + a generous dash all-purpose seasoning
• 3 bay leaves
• 6 cups BBQ sauce (use one you truly enjoy—this is not the place for compromise)
• Black pepper, to taste
• Hot sauce, to taste

Instructions

1. Step 1 – Build the base In a large sauce pot, combine the marinara and passata over medium heat. Once the mixture begins to bubble gently, add the chopped onions, dried thyme, onion powder, and all-purpose seasoning. Stir thoroughly and allow the sauce to come to a steady, gentle simmer. (Tomato sauces, as ever, will spatter with enthusiasm—consider yourself warned.)
2. Step 2 – Develop the sauce Add the bay leaves, chopped red peppers, and BBQ sauce. Stir well to combine and return the mixture to a gentle bubble. Reduce the heat to low and allow the sauce to simmer for 10–15 minutes, or until the vegetables have softened and the sauce has taken on a cohesive, glossy appearance.
3. Step 3 – Finish the seasoning Remove from heat. Season to taste with hot sauce and black pepper. Salt may be added if needed, though many BBQ sauces provide ample seasoning on their own.
4. Step 4 – Assemble the dish Toss the sauce with your favorite cooked noodles though spaghetti or a similar long noodles is most recommended..
